The elegant Cape Edwardian mansion was once the home of the shipping magnates, Sir John and Lady Ellerman and is known for having one of the most beautiful ocean views in South Africa.

The boutique hotel has 11 rooms, 2 suites and 2 three-bedroom Villas. LEVEL ONE – Indigenous gardens and flowing water welcome guests to the entrance of Villa One with its breathtaking ocean views. The Ellerman House Spa and two Deluxe Spa bedrooms are located on this floor, with Villa One on the upper two levels accessed either by lift or staircase. LEVEL TWO – Sophisticated minimalist décor and a stunning collection of original are key characteristics of the living areas, including a study, TV lounge, dining room and an entertainment area. The contemporary kitchen has a separate scullery and fully stocked cold room. A personal chef is on call to create breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. The emphasis is on fresh, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. LEVEL THREE – The top floor has a reading room and three en-suite bedrooms. The master bedroom (Aqua) has ocean views from the bedroom and bathroom. The second bedroom (Lilac) also has ocean views and the third room (Yellow) feature beautiful views of the Twelve Apostels mountain range. LEVEL ONE – Opening up off an inviting central corridor is a guest bathroom, desk area, cinema and three luxuriously appointed bedrooms each with an extensive open-plan dressing room, bathroom and separate W/C. The rooms are named Sea Point, Clifton and Bantry Bay and each room extends outdoors onto a private terrace. LEVEL TWO – Private, secure parking leads to an entrance foyer with glimpses of the sea before opening out into spacious, open-plan living and dining rooms with an open-plan kitchen and walk-in cold room. The kitchen is designed for social, interactive cooking and casual dining but can be closed off completely from the formal dining area by a sliding panel. A personal chef is on call to create delicious snacks, breakfasts, lunches and dinners, emphasising fresh, locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. The light-filled living areas feature fold-away glass doors on two sides, seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor entertainment areas with the ocean views. Entertainment areas extend outdoors onto generous terraces and a private infinity pool that merges with the blue of sky and sea. WINE
Is taken very seriously at Ellerman House, and the hotel’s 7500-strong collection of South African wines represents both established and emerging labels from the Western Cape’s world-renowned wine regions. Many of the wines in the collection are rare wines or special releases augmented by sought-after vintages bought on auction. Wines from the cellar are only made available on the hotel’s wine list once they have been optimally aged and are deemed ready for enjoyment at peak maturity.
Many of these fine wines are also available by the glass without compromising on quality, thanks to the Le Verre de Vin preservation system. The depth of the wine list allows guests to try verticals of vintages whereby the same wine can be sampled over various vintages.
The Ellerman House Wine Gallery
Integrating outstanding contemporary architecture with breathtaking sculptural elements and cutting-edge design, the new Ellerman House Wine Gallery is not only a showcase for this extensive, award-winning wine collection but offers guests a unique, interactive journey into the world of wine.
It aims to bring to life South Africa’s 350-year old heritage of winemaking, providing an environment for tasting and learning about local wines as intriguing and inspiring as the wine itself. Sophisticated storage is provided in state-of-the-art wine racks and separate, temperature-controlled maturation cellars for white and red wines. The gallery incorporates an interactive multi-media wine library and brandy tasting lounge.
There is also a Champagne cellar, stocked exclusively with rare and special vintages of Dom Pérignon. Guests have access to a wine App for iPad that provides detailed information about the wine estates and tasting notes for each of the wines featured on the hotel’s wine list.

ART
AT ELLERMAN HOUSE
Fine art is the soul of Ellerman House and the collection that line the walls is what sets us apart form other boutique hotels in South Africa. The art works span over two centuries, from the works of the famous Thomas Bowler showcasing Cape Town in the 1800’s to contemporary works from artists such as Lionel Smith and William Kentridge. Ellerman House invite their guests to join the art guide, Talita, for a private tour through the Ellerman House art collection starting with the oldest works and ending in the Contemporary Art Gallery, created in 2009.
If guests are interested in viewing galleries in Cape Town, Ellerman’s Art Guide will accompany them for an insider’s tour of Cape Town’s top art galleries. Talita is an artist and curator herself, so guests will gain behind-the-scenes access and knowledge of some of Cape Town’s most important art and art galleries.
Ellerman House offer a few tours – each tailor made to the guests’ interest in art, design and antiques. Or they can happily do a self-guided iPad tour of the collection in their own time.

Secluded in the lush gardens near the swimming pool, the Ellerman House fitness facilities offer a fully equipped gym for guests wanting to maintain fitness during their stay. With its state-of-the-art equipment, sauna and change rooms, guests can enjoy an energising workout while taking in a signature view of the Atlantic.
Ellerman’s ‘Technogym Excite’ equipment includes free weights and benches, treadmill, stationary bicycle, elliptical trainer, medicine balls and exercise mats.
SPA
Situated on the lower level of the Ellerman House Villa, the Ellerman House Spa is an opportunity to experience true relaxation and well-being while rejuvenating body and mind. The facility includes two single treatment rooms and one double treatment room, plus a sensation shower, sauna, and steam room.
Ellerman’s therapists draw on healing and beauty techniques from around the globe. Guests choose from massages including traditional Japanese body work, LaStone therapy, Bellabaci, aromatherapy, Swedish, deep tissue, Reiki and lymph drainage. The signature two-hour Ellerman House Ritual includes a body scrub and cleanse, body wrap, massage and rehydration treatment.
POOL
Located on the lower terrace of the hotel, the lap pool is heated by heat pump and solar, to a temperature between 19 and 24 degrees Celsius.
This pool is perfect for guests who enjoy a swim as part of their workout, while enjoying great views across the Atlantic Ocean. Alternatively soak up the rays and relax beside the pool in our loungers with a good book. Size of pool: 6m x 20m
BAR
A spiral staircase leads guests down to the Ellerman House Bar, where skilled and friendly staff serve beer, wine, fine spirits and gourmet cocktails. Guests can enjoy catching up on news and entertainment on a large flat-screen TV, while others indulge in the select Cuban and Dominican cigars available.
THE STUDIO
As a private & exclusive luxury hotel in Bantry Bay, Ellerman House is one of Cape Town’s finest accommodations for the discerning traveller. With Cape Town being one of the world’s top destinations and known for fast growing design and art, the development of The Studio was a natural progression for Ellerman House. The aim was to create a space on the property where guests will be able to purchase high-end products that are unique to South Africa.

The Ellerman House Library offers guests a collection of fiction and nonfiction titles, plus magazines from around the world. Ellerman House guests love to sit and read books in the morning, or enjoy an after-dinner drink by the fireplace.
